Testing the Fanttik X8 Apex Tire Inflator

For the past 10 years or so I have been using a great pump from Motopumps. This tire pump has a built-in gauge and is powered using the bike's battery via an SAE wired connection. Unfortunately this tool is now getting a little long in the tooth and it is having a difficult time inflating over 40 PSI. I have also noticed that the gauge is no longer as accurate as it once was. Because of these signs of old age, I have decided to investigate alternative options.

The pump I have decided to try is the Fanttik X8 APEX Tire Inflator. This is a battery powered unit that has a max capacity of 150 PSI. Fanttik claims that the pump has a run time of about 40 minutes before needing to be recharged.  While this does not sound like a lot on its face, the reality is that the pump will be primarily used to keep my motorcycle tires topped off on long trips, thus the battery should last a couple of weeks (at least) before needing to be recharged.

While needing to keep the battery charged is one of the CONS in using this kind of pump, the PRO is that it is ultra portable and can be easily used on a number of different applications (not just those with an SAE connector).

Another plus is that the Fanttik X8 APEX pump has a digital gauge that is claimed to be accurate within 1 pound. I did test this against my digital tire gauge and indeed found them to be within one half pound of each other.
FANTTIK portable tire inflator modes
The APEX pump has four different “modes” that can be used to inflate any number of applications. There are Auto, Motorcycle, Bicycle, Ball and Manual Modes. The differences between the 4 are that each has a preset lower and upper limit based on the intended use. If you need to inflate outside of the established ranges, you can use Manual mode which allows you to customize the upper limit (there is no set lower limit in Manual mode).

To test the Fanttik X8 Apex Tire Tire Inflator, I filled the tires on my motorcycle, snowblower and Toyota Tacoma truck. While I have no way to measure the volume of air pumped, the total PSI was about 50. The motorcycle and snowblower tires each took between 20 to 30 seconds to fill while the truck tires (at a much larger volume) took about 3 minutes per tire.
At the end of the test, I had used just over 50% of the battery’s available charge (based on the LED indicator). That was a total of about 14 to 15 minutes of run time, so the estimate of 40 minutes is probably pretty close. The actual runtime will be affected by the volume of air moved as well as the ambient temperature. Both extreme cold and hot temps will negatively affect battery life. On the day I was testing the temperatures were in the upper 30’s.

Of course the true test of this pump will be to take it on a long trip, but so far based on this initial test, I really like this pump for ease of use and being able to set the max pressure for each of my vehicles. Being that it is battery powered, I can easily move it from vehicle to vehicle, which is another big plus for me.
